If you’ve been around here for awhile then you know I have a little bit of an obsession with bows. Especially my little red head in bows. She was born with a head full of the most gorgeous hair I’ve ever seen but it quickly fell out so I started collecting nylon headbands for her. If she didn’t have one on people assumed she was a boy even if I dressed her in pink! Girlfriend had a headband for every occasion and holiday. Now that she is a toddler and has a mind of her own she no longer wants to wear the nylon headband type bows. Instead of throwing them all away I decided to turn them into clips! This was actually a very easy process. It probably doesn’t even require this tutorial but for those of you that are DIY challenged like me, it might help! It only cost $5.49 (for the clips) and 15 minutes of my time!
What you’ll need:
Metal Alligator Clips (THESE are the exact ones I bought)
I purchased 80, 1.75″ metal alligator clip from Amazon for this project. I’ve also seen them at Hobby Lobby and Joann’s but I love that Prime free shipping!
Step 1 – Use your scissors to snip the nylon headband. Pull the nylon away from the bow. Some bows (especially the bows from Little Poppy Co) had hot glue holding the nylon in place. I just cut as close to the middle as possible on both sides, leaving the nylon glued in the middle.
Step 2 – Insert the flat side of the clip through the middle of bow. If there is hot glue in the middle I found that I had to push a little harder but the clip still went right through! Easy. I told you this tutorial wasn’t necessary.
Here’s the aftermath – One bow that I broke, a busted clip, a bunch of garbage nylon, and a ton of re-purposed bows!
Do you remember our old bow storage? This shelf was so handy for storing all of her bows, diaper change essentials and more. I think I’m going to use it for the new baby since we are working on potty training her and most of these bows are gone.
And here’s our new bow storage container. A cheap glass canister from Target!
Does your little girl have a ton of these nylon headbands that never get worn anymore? Re-purpose them into cute clips that will last through the toddler years. They are perfect for young girls too! We love them for holding her bangs out of the way as her hair grows.
