As moms we know that self care is important. But do we always follow through and take that needed time for ourselves? No! It took me a year after having Timothy to start thinking about myself again. A YEAR. I’m making up for lost time by taking lots of baths. I do the dishes and then let my husband handle the crazies for an hour!
I recently bought a Premium Starter Kit of essential oils from Young Living. I did A LOT of research. It took me over a year to finally pull the trigger and buy it. I’m so glad I did though! I’m not going to get much into it today but if you’d like more info on the oils send me a message! Today I’m going to share with you an easy recipe for Homemade Bath Salts. It’s literally 2 ingredients in a cute jar! These would also make great gifts for friends, moms, and teachers. I’m hoarding all of them for myself though. I have three different jars with different scents throughout the house now!
You’re going to need a 16-20 oz glass jar with lid. The Home Made jar with lid I found at Hobby Lobby and the Mason canister style jar is from Fred Meyer. Both were about $5. Then I picked up a giant bag of Epsom salts from Walmart. I did say I’ve been taking a lot of baths right? Epsom salts are rich in magnesium and Epsom salt baths can ease stress and relax the body. They also help relieve pain and muscle cramps. Just what a mom needs after a long day with the kids! Amiright? Add a glass of wine, heaven.
Mama’s Bath Salt Blend
- 2 cups epsom salt
- 20 drops essential oil (I prefer Young Living)
Add 2 cups of epsom salt to glass jar. I use a 1/2 measuring cup to make it easier to add to the jar. Add 20 drops of essential oil (5 drops per 1/2 cup salt). Seal the lid and shake well.
My favorite oils and combinations
- 10 drops Panaway + 10 drops Lavender (for extra muscle soothing and relaxing)
- 10 drops Stress Away + 10 drops Lavender (this blend is both relaxing and comforting)
- 20 drops of Gentle Baby (Gentle Baby is a blend by Young Living that invites a sense of calming)
- 10 drops of Joy + 10 drops Grapefruit (both of these oils are coming in my next order. I’ve heard this blend is very uplifting!)
Add 1/2 cup to 1 cup of your bath salts to a hot bath and relax! It’s best to soak for at least 20 minutes to get the full effect of the salts. The first time I used oils in my bath I dropped them right in. Big mistake. Oil and water doesn’t mix! The Epsom salts will absorb the oils, helping them dissolve in the bath.
I add labels to my jars using a cheap label maker from Amazon. You can find the exact one HERE.
So tell me – are you an essential oil user? What are your favorite oils and blends? Let me know if you try any of these salt blends!

Hi! Can you tell me where you got your faux window shelf? Your decor is beautiful! Thank you!
Hi! I found it at Hobby Lobby a few years ago. I’ve seen them there every Spring though as part of their Spring launch. Hope you find it!
