Happy Tuesday! We had the most wonderful snow day yesterday. The kids and I have been not-so-patiently waiting for snow since November! We got about 6 inches of the most perfect, fluffy snow. It was so fun to play in. It wasn’t great snow for building a snowman but we did get the sled out and my husband pulled the kids around behind the quad. Parker proclaimed it THE BEST DAY EVER! Hopefully it doesn’t stick around too long though. I’m a one day a year snow person 🙂
Today I want to share with you an easy DIY homemade wood cleaner/polish/oil. Whatever you want to call it! I had some ladies over to my house last weekend for an Essential Oil Make & Take and several people commented on how great our dining room table looked! I’ve been making a conscious effort to ditch all the chemical cleaners in our house. Receiving my Young Living starter kit was the best decision ever! You can make this cleaner without essential oils but I wouldn’t recommend it. The oils make it smell so great!
All you need is 3 ingredients, a funnel and a 16 oz glass spray bottle. I recommend THIS bottle from Amazon. This multi-pack is also great for all your essential oil needs!
DIY Wood Cleaner
1 cup white vinegar
1 cup olive oil
20 drops of essential oil
Combine ingredients in glass spray bottle and shake well. Spray on wood surfaces and wipe with a cloth. I use old baby burp cloths because they are soft and can be washed over and over.
*Shake well before each use.
There are several essential oils that would work well in this wood cleaner. I used orange but you could also use lemon, pine, cedarwood or lavender. A combination of lavender and cedarwood would be heavenly!
You don’t need to use this cleaner often. I find once a week or every other week to be enough.
This was one of the easiest ditch and switch projects. The fragrance alone in standard household cleaners is so bad for you. They contain who-knows how many chemicals because they are unregulated. I feel good using this DIY wood cleaner around my kids! Have you made the switch to non-toxic products?

That’s amazing and I bet the orange oil smells divine!
It does smell good! Orange is one of my favorites.
I love the idea of a natural wood cleaner, can’t believe the recipe is so easy
Yes! It’s so simple. Give it a try!
I have had the hardest time finding a good wood cleaner! I’ll have to try this!
You should! Let me know how you like it 🙂
I love natural cleaning products and it’s so good you can make this at home. I’ll try it!

Dangggitttt I should have done this before we dropped serious money on a Bona refill bottle haha. I could seriously do this!! I’m so glad you shared this!
I’ve never tested it on floors. It might be kinda slippery! HAHA. I have used Thieves on my floor though. It works great. Just put a capful in your Bona bottle and add water next time it’s empty 🙂
Oh, wow! What a great diy product! I never need a lot of wood cleaner, so it’s a nice option to make some up at home.
Exactly! Thanks so much for reading.
Nice article about cleaning wood in non-toxic way, thanks for sharing this one.
This was perfect! I bought a side table at Goodwill for $1.99, I was going to sand and refinish it because it was in rough shape, but I used this recipe and just wiped on and let dry and it looks so good that I won’t even spend the time and money to refinish it.
I’m so happy to hear that!!
I needed to clean a wood dresser I picked up and searched “wood cleaner polish” and this was the BEST one. I can say after mixing it up and using it, it’s EXACTLY what I was looking for! It conditions the wood, cleans, and leaves it so beautiful. Plus it smells divine. I used 1:1 Pine and Orange. Thanks so much! This recipe is a keeper. Now I’m off to polish the rest of my house. Haha!
I’m so glad you liked this recipe! I still love and use it all the time too! <3
