Classic Holiday Frosted Sugar Cookies

November 25, 2017 | Uncategorized

Classic Holiday Frosted Sugar Cookies, Christmas Sugar Cookies, Cookie Frosting, Frosted Cookies, Real California Milk

Gosh, in my last post I was talking about how I couldn’t believe it was already November and now it’s almost December! I’m ready for all things Christmas and all the joy that comes with it! Parker and I made these cute frosted sugar cookies to take to Thanksgiving dinner and they were a hit! The perfect amount of sweetness in a soft sugar cookie. I’ve always loved holiday baking but it’s even better now that I can share it with my daughter! Before I share the recipe I want to talk about how Real California Milk is helping people in need this holiday season. Real California Milk is leading an initiative called Seals for Good. The campaign started in September by helping families affected by the hurricanes in Florida and Texas. Now Real California Milk is expanding to help those affected by the wildfires in California. Here’s how Seals for Good works: Real California Milk will donate $5 to the Great American Milk Drive every time a user shares a photo of the Real California Milk seal on social using the hashtag #SealsforGood (up to $10k in CA and $20k in TX/FL). There is no purchase necessary! Just snap a picture of the seal, use the hashtag, and do good!

I picked up a package of Real California Milk butter to make my sugar cookies. Like I mentioned above this recipe makes perfect, soft sugar cookies. I only bake them for 7 minutes to get them done the way I prefer. Some people prefer a more crunchy sugar cookie. Keep them in the full 9 minutes, just make sure to watch them closely so they don’t burn. I used classic Christmas shapes – a tree, stars, snowmen, snowflakes and a gingerbread man. I like to keep my frosting white and decorate with sugars and sprinkles but you can add food coloring to the frosting in the last step. These are so fun for kids of all ages to decorate! I set Parker up with different shakers of sprinkles and sugars and she goes to town. A lot ended up in her belly but that’s part of the fun!

Classic Holiday Frosted Sugar Cookies

Course Dessert
Servings 3 dozen
Author Kerry Afdem

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • powdered sugar for rolling out dough

Frosting

  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 5 tbsp milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside. Place butter and sugar in bowl of stand mixer and beat until light in color. Add egg and milk, beat to combine. Put mixer on low speed, gradually add flour mixture and beat until mixture pulls away from the side of the bowl. Divide the dough in half, wrap in wax or parchment paper and refrigerate for 2 hours.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Sprinkle surface and rolling pin with powdered sugar. Remove 1 wrapped pack of dough from the refrigerator, roll out dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into desired shapes, place at least 1 inch apart on a greased or parchment lined baking sheet. Bake for 7-9 minutes or until cookies are just turning brown around the edges. Let sit on baking sheet for 2 minutes, then remove to cool.

  2. In a large bowl, cream together the powdered sugar and butter until smooth. Gradually mix in milk and vanilla with an electric mixer until smooth, about 5 minutes. Color with food coloring if desired.

Use a butter knife to frost cookies. Decorate with colored sugars or sprinkles to finish. Allow to set up a few hours before stacking.

Let me know if you make these and how you like them! Don’t forget to snap a picture of the Real California Milk Seal and post on social media using the hashtag #SealsForGood. You have until 12/31 to help the families affected by the hurricanes in Texas and Florida and the wildfires in California.

Is there one spot in your house everyone seems to Is there one spot in your house everyone seems to gravitate to? For us it’s our master bedroom! Specifically mom and dad’s cozy bed! I tried for a long time to make crisp white sheets work for us but after fighting Cheeto stains, chocolate finger smears and the occasional 🤮 I finally gave up. These @miracle.brand sheets are made with all natural silver to kill 99.9% of bacteria and require less washing! Every mom’s dream right there! 🙌🏻 #partner #theafdemfarmhouse #momlifekeepingitreal

They all said medium to high light, which we don’t have. Maybe I just need to look for a specific variety? #theafdemfarmhouse #plantlady #everydayhomecharm

It’s been 9 days since we’ve seen our Emma kit It’s been 9 days since we’ve seen our Emma kitty. It’s a hard lesson to learn, even for me. Living on property, surrounded by woods there are natural predators 😭 She disappeared during the middle of the day too which is scary! The kids are more resilient than me though. Timothy has asked for 8 more cats and Parker a goat 😂 #farmlife #theafdemfarmhouse #farmkids
